Principal Investigator
Rikky Muller, PhD is an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences (EECS) at the University of California, Berkeley where she holds the S. Shankar Sastry Professorship in Emerging Technologies. She is a Co-director of the Berkeley Wireless Research Center (BWRC), a Core Member of the Center for Neural Engineering and Prostheses (CNEP) and an Investigator at the Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub (CZB). Prof. Muller received her BS and MS degrees from MIT and her PhD from UC Berkeley all in EECS, and was a McKenzie Fellow and Lecturer of EE at the University of Melbourne in Australia. She was the Co-founder of Cortera Neurotechnologies, Inc. a medical device company that was acquired in 2019, where she held positions as CEO and CTO. Prior to her PhD she was an IC designer at Analog Devices.
Prof. Muller was named one of MIT Technology Review's top 35 global innovators under the age of 35 (TR35), and one of MedTech Boston's top 40 healthcare innovators Under 40. She is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including the IEEE SSCS New Frontier Award, the McKnight Technological Innovations in Neuroscience Award, National Academy of Engineering Gilbreth Lectureship, the Chan-Zuckerberg Biohub Investigatorship, the Keysight Early Career Professorship, the Hellman Fellowship, the Bakar Fellowship, the Bakar Prize, the NSF CAREER Award, and is a Distinguished Lecturer of the Solid-State Circuits Society.
Postdocs and Research Staff
MunKyu Kang
Dr. MunKyu Kang is a postdoctoral scholar in the UC Berkeley EECS department. He received his BS and PhD degrees from Korea University, South Korea. His interests are holographic imaging, wavefront shaping, optical devices, and music instruments. MunKyu is co-advised by Prof. Laura Waller.
ChangUk Lee
Dr. ChangUk Lee is a postdoctoral scholar in the UC Berkeley EECS department. He received his BS and PhD degrees from Yonsei University, South Korea. His interests are mixed-signal circuit design for wearable and implantable devices, soccer, and tennis.
Miguel Montalban
Miguel Montalban is a Research and Design Engineering staff member for the Muller Lab in the UC Berkeley Department of EECS. Miguel received his MEng degree at UC Berkeley in Mechanical Engineering. His interests include wearable sensor design, electrode fabrication, and device assembly.
PhD Students
Alexander Chou
Alex is a PhD student in the EECS department at UC Berkeley. He received his undergraduate degree in EECS also from UC Berkeley. His interests include analog/mixed-signal ICs for medical devices, neural interfaces, and implantables.
Justin Doong
Justin is a PhD student in the EECS department at UC Berkeley. He received his BS degree from Stanford University. His interests include dry electrode e-phys recording, biomedical circuits, playing violin and basketball.
Yuean Gu
Yuean is a PhD student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. She received her BEng degree from University of Chinese Academy of Sciences. She is interested in biomedical circuits and systems design, baking and fishkeeping.
Surin Gweon
Surin is a PhD student in the EECS department at UC Berkeley. She received her BS from Korea University and MS degree from KAIST. She is interested in biomedical circuits and freediving. Surin is co-advised by Prof. Mekhail Anwar.
I-Ting Lin
I-Ting is a PhD Student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. He received his BS degree and MS degree in EE from National Taiwan University. His research interests include digital circuits and computer architectures for machine learning, signal processing, and numerical optimization.
Liz Murray
Liz is a PhD student in the EECS department at UC Berkeley. She received her BS and MEng degrees from MIT. Her research interests lie in biomedical circuits and signal processing.
Aviral Pandey
Aviral is PhD Student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley, where he also received his BS in 2019. His interests are circuit design for wearable and implantable devices, mixed signal design automation, and hiking.
Jade Pinkenburg
Jade is a PhD student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. He received his BS degree in EE from Cornell University. His interests include circuit design for implantable devices, sensor development, hiking, and musical instruments.
Dhruv Vaish
Dhruv is a PhD student in the EECS department at UC Berkeley. He completed his undergraduate degrees in EECS + BioE at UC Berkeley. His interests include analog and digital ICs, embedded software, medical devices, walking + hiking, teaching, and developing the web.
Alec Vercruysse
Alec is a PhD student in the EECS department at UC Berkeley. He received his BS degree in Engineering from Harvey Mudd College. His research interests include mixed-signal IC design and system integration, and he also enjoys hiking and water sports. Alec is co-advised by Prof. Mekhail Anwar.
Chun-Yen Yao
Chun-Yen is a PhD Student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. He received his BS degree in EE with a minor in ME and his MS degree in EE from National Taiwan University. His current interests include low-noise current sensing frontends for biomedical circuits, Japanese anime, cooking, and BayPassing.
Shengya Zhang
Shengya (Grace) Zhang is a PhD Student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. She received her BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computational Neuroscience from the University of Southern California. Her research interests include wearable and implantable bioelectronics, neural interface, and analog IC. She likes hiking, driving, roadtripping, cars, and cats.
Rebekah Zhao
Rebekah is a PhD student in the EECS Department at UC Berkeley. She received her BS degree in ECE and BME at Carnegie Mellon University in 2018. Her interests are biomedical circuit design, magnetic resonance imaging, running and singing. Rebekah is co-advised by Prof. Miki Lustig.
